| Volunteer in Nicaragua
Your World to Discover represents BaseCamp International Centers in
offering volunteer programs in Nicaragua.
Jinotepe,
the capital of the Carazo region, is a small Nicaraguan town that
offers volunteers the opportunity to immerse themselves in the
country's culture. Volunteers will quickly learn Spanish living in
our volunteer BaseCamp residence. Weekends provide opportunities to hike one
of the many volcanoes or swim in the lakes of Nicaragua, dance the
salsa until sunrise in Managua, relax on the beach in San Juan del Sur, explore Granada's old colonial buildings or experience the
unique flavors of the Caribbean coast.
Nicaragua does not draw the typical
traveler. One of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere,
Nicaragua is slowly recovering from years of revolution, civil war,
political miss-management and the devastating effects of Hurricane
Mitch. Without access to medical care,
education, housing and proper sanitation, the gap between rich and
poor grows ever wider. In spite of all this, Nicaraguans are warm
people who show an immense strength, even in the face of their
desperate economic situation.
Volunteers can inspire children in
orphanages in Managua, work with street kids in Granada, and assist
in health clinics in Esteli or teach English in San Juan del Sur.
